It’s a great time to be a teacher! If you’re like many families and looking for something to do over President’s Week with the kids, why not visit Ithaca? It’s about a 5 hour drive from Long Island and this school break, Ithaca is thanking teachers for all of the amazing things they do by offering some great deals discounts on shopping, dining, lodging, spas, entertainment and activities. Special deals will include buy one get one free entrées at top restaurants, free parties and services at spas, free wine tasting at Finger Lakes Wineries and hotel discounts between 30 and 50%. There are also more than 100 events scheduled for the break, including concerts by John Prine, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir that are open to the public (although the general public will not qualify for discounts).
These discounts and offers are open to all teachers from pre-K to 12th grade, retired teachers and other school district employees. All you have to do is bring your school ID, union membership card or a note from your principal to receive your VIT (Very Important Teacher) Pass and others in your family will receive Teacher’s Pet passes. Discounts will vary from business to business and will extend to the teacher and/or the entire party. If you’re going for the day, register at the Visitor’s Bureau (904 E. Shore Drive, Ithaca) and overnight guests can register at the hotel’s check-in desk.
While you’re there, it’s a great opportunity to take the whole family on tours of both Ithaca College and Cornell University.
