Want to help Haiti? Here’s how…

By now, everyone knows about the terrible earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this week.  Almost 500,000 people are assumed dead.  There are a significant amount of rumors going around relating to how the rest of the world can help the people of Haiti.  We’ll be updating this page as we find more information and opportunities.

  • Habitat for Humanity is taking monetary donations through their website here
  • Please text YELE to 501-501 to donate $5.00 to Yele Haiti, Wyclef Jean’s foundation. Your charge will show up on your next phone bill.
  • You can text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.  Your charge will show up on your next phone bill.
  • Individuals and companies can donate cash or goods through Aidmatrix Network or GiftsInKind International
  • American Red Cross, CARE and UNICEF are accepting cash donations
  • Doctors Without Borders has already treated over 1,000 in Haiti and they are accepting cash donations here.

False rumors

  • UPS will NOT ship for free any package under 50 lbs. to Haiti. Per their website, “The destruction of roads and communications networks means our own shipping services to Haiti are on hold. Rather than offer free shipping to individual donors, UPS directs its aid through relief agencies.”
  • American Airlines and Jet Blue are NOT flying doctors and nurses to Haiti for free.

Do you have any other ways to donate or have heard things that aren’t true? Post a comment here or e-mail us at info@liparentsource.com.
